“Luke, use the Force!”
When Star Wars: A New Hope was released in 1977, it became a major force in my creative evolution.
As a child, it was my first exposure to a sci-fi movie that not only spoke to me on a level that I could understand but also opened my mind to dreams and imagination that I had never experienced! Sounds like a pretty heavy statement to claim for a kid, right?
Along with the epic space battles, blaster fights, The Force and many colorful characters that entered every scene, I was captivated by the final battle. The trench run scene during the Death Star assault.
To me, this was the culminating moment of the film. The final heroic moment every young kid dreams of. That moment that a simple kid becomes a hero.
I was fascinated with the scenes where the Rebels were preparing ships for battle. Today, it is reminiscent of war movies we see on the big screen and historical videos. This set up a feeling of tension and excitement. The film then takes us into the battle against the Death Star where we are bombarded with non-stop ship to ship action! As we know, as all hope is about to be lost, Luke Skywalker is able to hit his target (using the Force), and in turn destroying the Death Star.
The galaxy is saved!
