I still remember the first time I heard Seth Green talk about a new stop-motion comedy show made with action figures and toys, and I was instantly curious (and a little skeptical). Could something that wild work? Now, 20 years later, Robot Chicken has not only worked, it’s become a hilarious and genius part of pop culture.
From Star Wars sketches like the “disgruntled employee” Gary the Stormtrooper, making fun of He-Man, or Emperor Palpatine’s “bad day at work”, Robot Chicken continues to deliver geeky humor that keeps me laughing. In this article, I’m sharing a few of my favorite videos from the Adult Swim series.
Gary the Stormtrooper
Gary the Stormtrooper is my all time favorite sketch from Robot Chicken! The adventures of this disgruntled Stormtrooper is the best of the Star Wars series. From taking his daughter to work, to being responsible for the deaths of Uncle Owen and Aunt Beru, his story is both funny and sympathetic. Long live Gary!
The Best of He-Man
The best part of the He-Man sketches? Skeletor and the villains! They’re totally over-the-top and hilarious. One of my favorite lines is from Skeletor while sitting on a massage chair: “Oh massage chair, if we lived in Canada, I’d marry you!” These skits are full of nostalgia and make me miss my old MOTU toys!
Best of Superman
Superman is usually the perfect superhero… but not in Robot Chicken! Here, he’s awkward, full of himself, and kind of clueless. It’s a fun twist that turns the Man of Steel into one of the funniest characters in the superhero sketches.
Best of The Emperor
The Emperor is having the worst day ever! This sketch shows Palpatine in totally normal situations, like getting a haircut or dealing with annoying Stormtroopers, and it’s hilarious. It’s one of the best examples of Robot Chicken showing the silly side of Star Wars.
Boba Fett Moments
Boba Fett may be one of the coolest bounty hunters in the galaxy, but in Robot Chicken, he’s not as slick as he seems! These sketches show a goofier, over-the-top version of Fett, and it totally works. The best (and weirdest) moments are his awkward run-ins with Han Solo. It’s Boba like you’ve never seen him before.
Best of Batman
Robot Chicken’s Batman is all about the raspy voice and his classic line, “I’M BATMAN!” But instead of being dark and serious, this version is awkward, goofy, and totally funny. They take the Dark Knight and give him a and give him a twist!
Star Trek Moments
One of the earliest sketches, this one takes the crew of the Enterprise on a wild ride! It pokes fun at all the usual Star Trek stuff, like serious speeches and logic and turns Spock into a total jerk. It’s ridiculous in the best way!
