“By the POWER OF GRAYSKULL!”
As a kid growing up in the 80s, Saturday morning cartoons and action figures, He-Man and the Masters of the Universe were everything to me. I watched the cartoon every day after school and owned a large collection of figures, including He-Man, Skeletor, Castle Grayskull, and many more. But even before I opened a single toy, it was the artwork on the boxes that amazed and inspired me. The scenes of battle and action left a lasting impression on me and provided inspiration when I played with my friends.
Those amazing scenes came from the incredible artist Earl Norem, whose art helped define the look and feel of Masters of the Universe. His powerful, action-filled box art transformed toy packaging into epic, movie-like scenes featuring heroes and villains, monsters, and mayhem brought to life. Norem’s art didn’t just sell toys; it made us feel that with every battle we took our toys into, we were re-creating what we saw on the boxes. His legacy continues to inspire fans and collectors today- including me!
