DC and Marvel have a long history of embracing the holiday spirit through their comic covers, giving fans a mix of action, and humor. Whether it’s Batman chasing bad guys wearing elf hats, Superman flying past Christmas lights, Spider-Man decorating a tree, or Hulk dressed up like Santa, these covers bring seasonal cheer with a heroic twist.
Throw in Santa Claus (who might honestly deserve his own comic series by now), and you’ve got the perfect blend of Christmas magic and comic-book fun. Let’s take a closer look at some of our favorite Christmas-themed comic covers.
The Lobo Paramilitary Christmas Special #1 (1991)
“Holy Christmas violence, Batman!” Even though we all know that LOBO isn’t a nice guy and this kind of violence checks out for him, this cover still took me off guard! Lobo standing over a beaten Santa Claus is a disturbing scene!
“Santa is not the jolly, smiling old man personified in the traditions however. He is actually a merciless taskmaster armed with razor-sharp shivs and accompanied by a gorilla companion named Kong.
Before Lobo executes Santa where he sits, he is coaxed into a fair fight by the bearded bastich. Kringle chooses the weapons and leads ‘Bo into the Elf-o-matic Cloning Unit, claiming there is more room to maneuver. The two brawl fiercely, and the fight is as messy as it is brutal. Ultimately, Lobo wins by decapitating Kringle with one of his own shivs.”
DC Christmas with the Super-Heroes (1975)
Now this is the wholesome Christmas-themed comic cover we’re looking for! Being a DC Comics and Christmas fan, this cover displays a classic and straightforward feeling holiday vibe with Santa leading our heroes!

Incredible Hulk #20 Winter Holiday- Variant Cover by GREG LAND (2024)

Captain Marvel Adventures #19 (1941)
When flying reindeer aren’t available, what better way to deliver Christmas gifts than with the help of Captain Marvel? I also love the older classic comic vibe.
“An eminent professor is made a dupe by a phony scientist/explorer named Greaseley, who claims to have brought live native creatures back from the planet Venus, and together, Mary & Billy [as the Marvels] put a stop to this scam. Plus: Captain Kidd in an untitled tale. And: 2-page text story “The Wizard’s Mark.”
Batman Santa Clause Silent Knight Returns #5 (2024)
I love this “badass” Santa as he leads the heroes against a monstrous horde on Christmas Eve!
“Seven heroes stand before the monstrous hordes of the Silent Knight. Seven heroes enter the mysterious castle hold of the Hollow Kingdom to face a test of true spirit and will.”
Giant Superhero Holiday Grab-Bag #8 (1975)
This is another classic Christmas scene with our favorite Marvel heroes decorating the Christmas tree. It is these traditional scenes that put me in the holiday spirit!

Batman #27 “A Christmas Peril” (1940)
This is another innocent feeling cover that is the perfect Christmas scene for young Batman fans – far from his usual “beating up villains” motto! Plus – Santa makes it even better!
“Batman and Robin learn of a criminal racket during Christmas Eve and they find the man behind the crimes: a rich and spoiled brat. After making him realize the error of his ways, the young man reveals that the idea for the crimes came from his lawyers and they are eventually captured by the Dynamic Duo.”
Spectacular Spider-Man # 112 (1986)
While not the “real” Santa, and outside the normal wholesome image we are used to, I love this gun-wielding pose on this St Nick imposter!
“It’s Christmas Eve in New York City, as shoppers go about their business a young man steals a present out of the arms of a woman and makes a run for it. Although he gets past the bystanders and slips into an alley, he runs into a web put up by Spider-Man.”
